Attention:
AOL version 6.0 is now available! This update will allow you to
view AVHumor and other sites in all their HTML glory!
Download
it here!
The default
settings for AOL's online browser reduces the quality of the images
displayed. This causes your graphics to look very blurry and
contain artifacts. To correct this flaw, follow the four steps
laid out below. This procedure may vary depending on your
equipment and version of America Online. The instructions below
were written using AOL version 4.
(1) Select "My AOL" then "Preferences" from
the menu.
(2) The Preferences dialog box will appear, click the
"WWW" button.
(3) The Internet Options dialog box will appear. Click the
"Web Graphics" tab and uncheck the "Use Compressed
Graphics" checkbox.
(4) Next, click the "General" tab and click the
"Delete Files" button to clear the cache. To avoid this
from happening in the future, click "Settings" and then click
the circle next to "Every visit to the page".
After you have completed these four steps, I recommend that you quit and
restart America Online.
AOL subscribers may experience difficulty reading email from AVHumor.
First, our AOL HTML version is not yet available. AOL likes to do
things a bit different than the rest of the world and viewing our HTML
version is one of those things that just doesn't quite work. We
are working on coming up with a format suitable for AOL users in HTML,
but for now please be patient with our text version.
As well, there are certain types of files which will not run well on AOL.
Fortunately, AVHumor uses very few of these types of files, and there
are solutions to most of these problems. AOL is currently
developing newer versions which will hopefully rectify most of these
problems.
It seems that the AOL mail software just doesn't seem to handle
attachments too well at times. Mime files, which is what you are
probably receiving, are just AOL's way of converting files that are sent
from non AOL sources.
There are a few choices in software to be able to view these files.
Probably the easiest way for you to decode them is to install WinZip 7
(if you haven't already). The new version of WinZip treats them like a
zip file and you can use it to extract/decode/view the files into
whatever directory you want. WinZip can be found at any of the common
shareware sites or at the winzip site itself: (http://www.winzip.com)
Alternatively, you can go right to http://enews.lbl.gov/ICSD/CIS/citg/email/pc-decode.htm
which is a site that has free software called Decode, which is for this
very purpose. They have explicit instructions on how to download
and decode MIME formatted files.
Please
note that if you are not getting AVHumor and are supposed to be, it may
be because you may have inadvertently set your filter block it.
AOL's parental controls can set up e-mail to:
• Allow all e-mail
• Allow e-mail from AOL members only
• Block all e-mail
• Allow e-mail from AOL members and only listed domains and
addresses
• Allow e-mail from only listed AOL members and only listed
domains and addresses
• Block e-mail from listed AOL members, domains and addresses.
• Block all attachments in mail
In order to get each and every issue of AVHumor you must have it set to:
Allow all e-mail
or
Allow e-mail from AOL members and only listed domains and addresses
And make sure that you have bounce@avhumor.com
as an acceptable address, as well as @avhumor.com and @mmic.com
As well, you cannot have your "Block all
attachments in mail" checked off, as this will also block out
AVHumor from arriving.
Note that to change these settings, you must do it
from the master screen name, ( the one that started the account ).
It is the only name that can change parental controls.
